Through Ensinger’s state-of-the-art extrusion process, the Ultem 1000 series is available in a line of highly-durable and heat-resistant stock shapes known as TECAPEI.
TECAPEI products made using unfilled Ultem 1000 resins are all translucent amber in color, and they are perfectly suited for machining using conventional metalworking tools. They can also be painted, silkscreened, printed, hot-stamped or metallized.
Rigid and Stable Even Under Extreme Conditions
Ultem 1000 products are noted for their extreme resistance to stress and heat. Even when exposed to temperatures over 270 degrees, they retain 100 percent of their tensile strength and rigidity. These products also have exceptionally low smoke evolution with internal testing at UL 94 V-0. They have resistance to direct flames as well as gamma and UV radiation.
The high-strength mechanical properties and stress resistance of Ultem 1000 make products machined or cast using the material perfect for mechanical applications. Internal machine parts of automobiles, planes, buses and industrial equipment can all potentially contain Ultem 1000 products and expect to perform exceptionally well. Electronic instruments and microwave devices can also take advantage of Ultem 1000 products’ high thermal and radiation resistance.
Ultem 1000 products’ resistance to repeated high temperatures also makes them ideal for medical instruments that must be sterilized in a steam autoclave. Its 500 psi tensile strength persists 100 percent even after 2000 cycles in a steam autoclave at 270 degrees.
